Metal is a longer-service-life roof than asphalt, and it prices differently because it installs differently. Panel layout, fastening method, and flashing detail matter more on metal than on shingle, and a metal roof installed with shingle habits will leak at the fasteners within a few seasons.

Standing seam
Standing-seam panels are joined by raised, interlocking seams with concealed fasteners, so nothing penetrates the panel face. That is the reason for both the service life and the cost. It is the system we recommend where budget allows, particularly on low-slope sections and on homes where the roof is a visible architectural element.
Exposed fastener
Exposed-fastener panels are screwed through the panel face into the structure, with a gasketed washer sealing each penetration. It is a more affordable metal system and installs faster. The trade-off is those gaskets: they are the wear point, and they need inspection over the life of the roof.
Panel profile and gauge
Panel profile, metal gauge, and finish are specified in your written proposal rather than left as 'metal roof'. Gauge determines how the panel resists denting and oil-canning; the finish determines how it holds colour under North Georgia sun. Both are named before you sign.
Metal roofing in Cumming and Forsyth County
Forsyth County is where we install the most metal, and Cumming in particular. The county's newer housing stock and larger lots suit standing-seam well, and homeowners here are often replacing an original builder-grade shingle roof rather than a failed metal one, which means the decision is being made on service life rather than forced by a leak. Is a metal roof noisy in the rain?
Not in the way people expect. A metal roof installed over solid decking with underlayment beneath it, which is how we install them, sounds substantially different from bare metal over open framing on a barn or shed. Attic insulation damps it further.
Is metal worth the extra cost over shingles?
It depends on how long you plan to stay. Metal costs more upfront and lasts considerably longer, so the value is in banking that service life. It also makes sense on long roof runs, on low-slope sections that shingles cannot serve, and on properties where heavy tree debris makes a smooth-shedding surface worthwhile.
